Seminar « planar microwave sensors » by Prof. Ferran Martin (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona)
Professor Ferran Martín (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) delivered a seminar on planar microwave sensors at the University of the Basque Country in the third semester of the academic year 2024-2025.
Abstract. Professor Ferran Martín, along with Professor Paris Vélez, both from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, conducted a 20-hour seminar on planar microwave sensors from November 25, 2024 to November 27, 2024. This seminar/workshop was offered to third-semester students at UPV/EHU as part of the “Sensors and Sensor Networks” course. Professor Martín covered the theoretical aspects, including operating principles, sensor types, and design techniques. Meanwhile, Professor Vélez handled the practical sessions, where students designed two planar sensors using Keysight Technologies’ 2D electromagnetic simulator, Momentum.
Bio. Professor Ferran Martín is a distinguished academic at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). He earned his B.S. in Physics in 1988 and his Ph.D. in 1992 from UAB. Since 2007, he has been a Full Professor of Electronics at UAB, where he leads the Microwave and Millimeter Wave Engineering Group and directs CIMITEC. His research focuses on high-frequency applications, metamaterials, and microwave and millimeter wave circuits. He has authored over 400 technical papers and holds several patents. Among his accolades are the Duran Farell Prize for Technological Research and an ICREA ACADEMIA Award. In 2022, he published the book “Planar Microwave Sensors,” detailing advancements in planar microwave sensor technology.
