Bio. Dr. Karola Möhring is a legal expert in the field of information technology at higher-education institutions. She currently serves in the Stabsstelle IT-Recht (IT Law Unit) of the IT‑Zentrum der Thüringer Hochschulen, based at the Technische Universität Ilmenau in Thuringia, Germany. Abstract. In her lecture, Karola Möhrin will presented the EU’s Artificial Intelligence Act, which came into force on the 1st of August 2024. The roles defined in the AI Act were be presented and categorised in terms of their relevance for researchers. Furthermore, the categorisation of AI systems into different risk categories and their potential impact on research on AI systems was discussed.
