Seminar « Phase change material based re-configurable metasurfaces » by Prof. Dr. Nicholas Güsken (University of Paderborn)

Prof. Dr. Nicholas Güsken (University of Paderborn) delivered a seminar entitled. « Phase change material based re-configurable metasurfaces » on May, 23rd 2025.

Abstract. This seminar presents reconfigurable metasurfaces using phase-change materials, enabling dynamic control of light for applications in beam shaping, switching, and adaptive optics.

Bio. He is a physicist and nanotechnologist who currently serves as a tenure-track Assistant Professor at Paderborn University in the Department of Physics and the Institute for Photonic Quantum Systems (PhoQS). His research group focuses on quantum photonics and optoelectronics, with particular emphasis on quantum emitters, light-matter interaction, and interfaces for photonic integrated circuits – key domains for future quantum technologies. His outstanding scientific achievements have been recognized with significant awards, including a €1.2 million Wübben Science Foundation grant and funding from the NRW Returnee Program, both supporting his return to Germany after research abroad. In 2025, Dr. Güsken was elected a member of the Young Academy of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. At Paderborn, Dr. Güsken heads a research group within both the Paderborn Institute for Photonic Quantum Systems (PhoQS) and the Center for Optoelectronics and Photonics Paderborn (CeOPP).
