Seminar « Recent Advancements in Radio Sciences » by Dr Somak Bhattacharyya (Indian Institute of Technology)
Dr. Somak Bhattacharyya delivered a seminar entitled. Dr Somak Bhattacharyya (Faculty Advisor, IEEE Microwave Theory & Techniques Society Student Branch Chapter) will deliver a seminar titled « Recent Advancements in Radio Sciences on Monday 23 June 2025.
Abstract. With the advent of the technology, there is an increase in demand of the channel bandwidth; leading to the requirement of high frequencies for communication. In this talk, some modern day aspects and trends of the radio science communication will be presented. Emphasis will be given to applications like radio astronomical techniques, terahertz communication etc. where electromagnetic spectrum plays critical role. The applications from Indian scenario point of view will also be discussed in the talk.
Bio. Dr. Somak Bhattacharyya (GSM’10, M’16, SM’20) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronics Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi. He completed B.Tech and M.Tech from Institute of Radio Physics & Electronics, University of Calcutta in 2006 and 2008, respectively followed by Ph.D. at IIT Kanpur in 2015. His research interests encompass microwave engineering, metasurfaces, terahertz devices, radio astonomy techniques and related areas. He received Young Scientist Award by the International Union of Radio Sciences (URSI) three times and holds honorary lifetime membership with URSI. In 2022, he received the IETE-Smt. Manorama Rathore Memorial Award for his significant contributions to electronics and communication over the preceding five years. The same year, he was elected as a Fellow of the Antenna Test and Measurement Society (ATMS), India.
