European Microwave Week 2025: A Student’s Perspective

Attending European Microwave Week 2025 (EuMW) in Utrecht, Netherlands was an unforgettable experience for me, both as a volunteer and as a student in the EMIMEP program. The event offered a unique environment where learning, collaboration, and innovation came together in one place.

As a volunteer, I had the opportunity to work closely with the organizing team. Working with other students and the event staff, I learned how to manage tasks, solve problems, and ensure smooth operations. This hands-on experience strengthened my teamwork and communication skills. Being part of such a dynamic environment not only showed me the behind-the-scenes side of a major international conference, but also made me feel truly connected to the community.

As a student, I was excited to attend workshops and technical sessions, particularly those focused on photonic and microwave amplifiers, recent research directions, and emerging applications. A highlight for me was the 6G Forum, which broadened my perspective on the future of wireless communication and deepened my understanding of how microwave and photonic technologies will shape it.

The exhibition hall was another inspiring part of EuMW. Exploring different companies, discovering cutting-edge technologies, and speaking directly with experts gave me valuable insights into how academia and industry intersect. Meeting leading figures in this domain — from researchers and engineers to industry innovators — was truly motivating.

What stood out most was the atmosphere: the sense of being part of the next generation of scientists and engineers who will contribute to future breakthroughs. The innovation on display, the exchange of ideas, and the encouragement from experts inspired me to push myself further in my own studies and research.

This week was full of everything — learning, networking, and inspiration. From meeting fellow students to engaging with leaders in the field, every moment was meaningful. I am already looking forward to the day when I return, not only as a participant but as someone who presents their own work and contributes to this growing community of microwave and photonics enthusiasts.
